Here is an MDC combine cyberkitbashed to represent a shortline car like the StJ&LC one shown below. If I really did this, Id replace the widely-spaced windows in the combine section with a window strip from the MDC Overton coach. In this case, Im showing the more typical clerestory roof rather than the arch roof on the StJ&LC car. The baggage doors on the MDC kit really need to be recessed about three scale inches more, which doesnt sound like much but as built, would not be deep enough to slide behind the car side. (Common fault with plastic kits of wood passenger cars.) Having posted a number of wood passenger car prototypes on our website, the RPO section was fairly rare. Steam-era shortlines c. mid-century often had a single passenger car, a combine, not a coach or RPO-combine (although there were exceptions to both). Bethlehem Car Works has a laser-cut kit for a similar RPO-combine but with closed-vestibule ends.
