Here is an excerpt from a letter that I wrote to my father: Here is an update of the message that I sent to you earlier, concerning the pinning down of the events in the Life of Jesus of Nazareth in real history: When you look closely, there is confusion and controversy, concerning just where Our Lord did what He did: 1. Their are issues with the Infancy narratives of Jesus of Nazareth, recorded in Matthew and Luke, because we have not found evidence of the Star that the Magi saw, and we do not know how many Magi there were, and besides this, we have not found corroborating evidence of the census, that St. Luke says was decreed by Caesar Augustus. 1. The traditional mountain for the Transfiguration appearance, is Mount Tabor, but modern scholars believe that the Transfirguration happened at Mount Hermon. 2. The original Upper Room, where the Last Supper was held, and where the Risen Jesus appeared to the ten disciples, and then to Thomas, is gone. 3. We are not sure of the precise location in Jerusalem, where the Crucifixion happened, although based upon the evidence from the Holy Shroud of Turin - it was near the Damascus Gate. 4. There are two tombs attributed to Jesus of Nazareth in history, the tomb of the Holy Sepulcher, and the Garden tomb. Based upon the evidence of the Holy Shroud, the Garden tomb is more likely. 5. The traditional spot where Jesus appeared to two disciples on the Road to Emmaus, is Nicopolis, but modern scholars dispute this, because it is too far from Jerusalem, further than the distance that Luke records in his gospel. 6. The third resurrection appearance to the seven disciples by the Sea of Galilee - was not historically marked - until a Franciscan church was built there - in the twentieth century. 7. The place where Our Lord appeared - to give His Great Mandate - is also unknown to me, at this time - nor is the location known to me, where He appeared to 500 witnesses in Galilee either. 8. The location where Jesus ascended into heaven, does have a historical marker, as does the location in Jerusalem, where Pentecost actually happened. 9. We also have the tombs of the Apostles, especially that of St. Peter in Rome, that archeologists have definitively found. One scientific test that I am proposing to Timothy Dolan, is testing whether the personal effects of St. Peter, and the personal effects of St. Andrew - indicate that they were, indeed, biological brothers. The two Personal Effects that we have that we can attribute to Jesus of Nazareth with confidence - are His Holy Shroud of Turin, and His Sudarium of Oviedo. No other object or text, testifies as amazingly as the Holy Shroud of Turin - that the Singular Crucifixion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth - actually happened in history, and as I have explained about the Holy Shroud of Turin - there are vast amounts of high resolution photographs, scientific data, and multi-disciplinary research, devoted to the Holy Shroud of Turin - that are still not in the public domain! There is evidence that Matthew, Mark Luke and John - were all written much closer to the life of Jesus of Nazareth, while He was on earth, and archaeologists continue to find more and more evidence, that the Jesus Movement - spread very rapidly and was very widespread - after the Resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth, that very likely occurred upon April 5, 33 CE, based upon the evidence of earthquakes, that took place in Jerusalem, at that time. Finally, since this is the 21st century - what we have to work with, besides all of the historical evidence for the existence of Jesus, including His Resurrection, based upon His Holy Shroud of Turin - are all of His commandments, that we find in Matthew, Mark Luke and John, and Acts, and the Epistles, and faithfully handed down, by the Catholic Church that He established. And when we consider all of these Commandments, especially those pertaining to the Right to Life, and Indissoluble Marriage, open to children, and the practice of charity - they all make perfect sense, and they all are in perfect harmony with the best modern science and research. The Sacraments of Baptism, Confession and Eucharist, along with Confirmation, Holy Matrimony, Holy Orders, and the Anointing of the Sick - also all make perfect sense, as well. All of this means that Jesus of Nazareth - is as relevant today in the 21st century, as He was in the 1st century - because He is the same, yesterday, today, and forever!
