Here is an extremely rare and fortunate opportunity to sit with traditional elders—a taste, maybe for the first time, of the depth of history that lives through us. These teachers, whose hearts, minds, and memories access our vastness, have human history at their fingertips. Watch as they recall our ancient stories, which have been passed down for thousands of years. We hold pieces of each other, and when our oral traditions come together, humankind can know itself more fully. This video also models the circular quality of (and patience required in) indigenous learning and storytelling. Elders include Apela Colordao, who founded the Indigenous Mind program of which I am a graduate, Hawaiian elders Hale Makua and Auntie Poe Poe, who are both now ancestors, and Zulu record keeper and high shaman, Baba Credo Mutwa. The is best viewed in a circle/group of people, who can hold the content more fully, with greater ease and respect. I have watched this many times over the years and learn something new each time. May you and your ancestors be blessed.
