Here is an eye-witness account of what mission creep looked like in Vietnam. The Battle of L Drang, when LBJ first sent US military advisers into open combat with People Army of Vietnam. Continued attacks on US/ARVN military bases, putting US military advisors and their assets (planes, helicopters, artillery, rockets, etc) in direct harms way, required that the military advisors not so covertly morph into combat soldiers... And thus it all began. Here is what will surely happen in Syria and Iraq within a matter of months if not sooner.
