Here is an idea to spread out the school holidays. Diving all the schools in Singapore into 6 groups, A, B, C, D, E, F. Group A schools have year end holidays in Nov-Dec, group B in Jan-Feb, and so on. As each family wants to have holidays with their children, they send their children to schools in the same group. As there are slightly more than 300 primary and secondary schools in Singapore, each group will have 50 schools. The family have a wide choice. The advantage of this arrangement is that the school holidays are spread through out the year, which give the following benefits: 1. Less traffic congestion 2. Holiday resorts are occupied through out the year, leading to lower prices The only drawback is that there is no common examination for all the students, but it is not difficult to set 6 sets of papers of comparable standard. I wonder why no country has adopted such a system?
