Here is an important reminder for people in very hilly and mountainous roads. If you are around a truck on a long downgrade and experience a burning smell, kind of like chemicals and heat, watch out. That trucks brakes are extremely hot and at risk of fire. This is most common in Ca and mountain areas of the Ne. A trucks brakes can heat up to over 1000 degrees very quickly and do one or both of the following: they are losing the ability to slow the truck and are at risk of causing fires at the tandems, the load and anywhere on the tractor. A tire fire for a truck needs to be put out by the fire department because it burns like a petrol fire. Avoid being in front of a truck and on the side or passing on the right side of a truck on a down grade.
