Here is an update on the snow and wind for Wednesday afternoon - TopicsExpress

Here is an update on the snow and wind for Wednesday afternoon through Thursday afternoon. First off we have a Lake Effect Snow Watch still in effect for Erie, Genesee and Wyoming Counties from 3pm Wednesday through 6am Friday. The watch is issued due to potential impacts from snow AND wind combined on travel during this time frame. Significant blowing and drifting of snow is likely and will cause greatly reduced visibilities while driving. A lake snow band starts Wednesday morning across the Southern Tier on a westerly wind while the sun will be out for for Buffalo and the North Towns. Then as we get into Wednesday afternoon the lake snow band shifts north due to winds becoming more west southwesterly. This will bring the lake snow band into Erie county around 4/5pm. As the band moves north and slows down, winds will be quite gusty and begin to affect drivers out on the roads. The snow band may move around both in placement and intensity Wednesday night. One thing also going on Wednesday night will be the combination of temperatures in the teens to near 20 and gusty winds making for wind chills to be down around zero. Southern Tier counties will see only a Trace to 2 from 5am Weds-5pm Weds. Buffalo and North Towns will see a Trace to 5+ 5pm Weds through Midnight. Then another Trace to 5+ Midnight through Noon Thursday. A few more inches may fall later Thursday afternoon. So a few locations may end up with close to one foot for this event, but many will be below one foot. Ill have a full update on the forecast plus any new information about the watches turning into advisories or warnings on 2 On Your Side at 10 on Fox and again at 11 on Channel 2. -Storm Team 2 Meteorologist Josh Kozlowski
