Here is another inspirational poem written by a student from the Ricks School at the University of Denver, Denver, Colorado. When I am a Tuskegee Airmen… I will live by respect, confidence, and care. I will feel the steering stick rubbing against my skin as I make sharp turns. I will smell the fuel coming through the exhaust pipes. I will taste the smoke slipping into my mouth. I’ll hear the big boom of the bombs breaking my ear drums. I will aim high and believe in myself. I will hear other pilots talking to me in my headphones saying, “The enemy’s right there!” I will see the enemy’s plane rushing through the air shooting their guns to defend. That’s when I will use my brain. No matter what, I’ll be prepared, never quit, and expect to win. I will keep on thinking to myself, over and over again, I will soon be a hero. Oh, what life will be when I am a Tuskegee Airman.
