Here is another look at the filament eruption from yesterday - TopicsExpress

Here is another look at the filament eruption from yesterday combined with coronagraph imagery from LASCO. While the CME is a asymmetrical full halo CME and thus directed towards Earth, the CME itself is not very spectacular. It left the Sun with a maximum speed close to 500km/s which is not very fast for a CME. This combined with the slow ambient solar wind speed will likely decelerate the CME so much that it will take close to 4 days to travel the Sun-Earth distance and impact earths magnetic field with minimal effect mid-day on August 19, 2014. Kp-values up to 4 (active) are expected at most. Geomagnetic storming does not seem likely at this time but high latitude sky watchers should nonetheless remain alert for aurora.
