I breed shaggy Smithfields here in Tasmania and I have been researching the old working strain of wiry coat STCD / Timmins Biters / Smithfield type Cattle Dog and get annoyed when people call them just Smithfields :D They seem to throw back to the Timmins Biters (These ended up nothing like Smithfields either) but these days modern dogs would have ASTCDs bred into their lines so dont resemble a Smithfield at all except for a bob tail. As they have no real name, I dont mind people calling the wiry ones Smithfield type Cattle Dogs but the modern, short coated ASTCD should never be called a Smithfield Cattle Dog. :)
