Here is another well written statement from a retired LASD Deputy. Thank you for allowing me to share your thoughts, Dep. Hedges! Burton This might be the new normal coming from the Progressive left towards our men and women in uniform for doing their job and having a desire to go home at night to their families. Whatever it takes to get a vote or bring their base together. I loved every minute of my career. The finest men and women I have ever met and worked with wore the uniform and badge. Skin color was not an issue, we all wore the same uniform, we sat at briefings together, ate together, talked about our families and problems with each other and worked together defending one another despite the risks we were taking. We trained together, laughed together, cried together and shared the loss of many of our fellow officers together. I personally would have taken a beating or a bullet at any time to protect any one of my fellow Deputies and never give a thought about color or ethnicity. We were not a bunch of separate color or ethnic groups, we were brothers and sisters with common goals and love and respect for one another. There will always be a few bad cops, there will always be bad decisions made under intense pressure, but 99% of the men and women I worked with would have, and many did give their lives to protect one another and protect the citizens of the areas we worked, people we didnt even know in most cases. They have no malice or bad intentions. They go to work with a few things in mind, take bad people off the street, protect the citizens and see their families at the end of the day. When a citizen runs from us, resists arrest, fights, or otherwise places us the officers at risk, it is our duty to get them off the streets and bring them to justice. It is the wrong decision of the suspect to resist or fight that makes any encounter with law enforcement a game changer and puts not only the officer at risk, but now places the suspect at greater risk also. Bad guys dont need guns to be dangerous, cops have the tasers, night sticks and guns on their hips. If a suspect fights or resists, they place themselves within an officers personal space where the officer is not only at risk of injury, but is now at risk of losing a weapon to a suspect and having it used on them. Officers HAVE to be one step ahead of the suspect to survive any encounter. Officers can not read an individuals mind, officers dont have a suspects medical history in front of them, they cant possible know during any type encounter, assault or fight what exactly the suspect is thinking. Officers REACT to a situation which is controlled by the suspect. If the suspect is going to cooperate, run, resist and/or assault an officer, that decision by the suspect will determine the end result of the encounter. Quit blaming the police for the bad judgement and choices made by stupid people and criminals, TAKE PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR YOUR ACTIONS, make them take responsibility for theirs, do the right thing so no one gets hurt. I have been retired for a long time now, but I loved my career. I have many friends who shared my career choice and share my love and respect for law enforcement and for the men and women who do the job everyday. My heart goes out to them, especially now when they must feel so isolated and disrespected. Keep your heads up brothers and sisters. You are still the first line defenders of this Countrys citizens. You are still loved and respected by the majority, and I personally would still to this day give my life for any one of yours. This has become politics and those that are diminishing you are those stupid ones the liberals have bragged about so much. news.yahoo/ex-south-carolina-police-chief-indicted-murder-charge-160946468.html?soc_src=mediacontentstory&soc_trk=fb
