Here is my Dads obit. His memorial is this weekend. My dad did not like black or Grey to be worn by us---so in that vein my family will wear only blue to the memorial. Got to get some things right-you know. It is supposed to be nice weather. He would have liked that. Thanks for reading--- Bob was born to the late William and Ruth (Mewhirter) Jager outside of Plattville, IL, where he grew up on the family farm. He attended the local one room schoolhouse in Lisbon Center and graduated from Newark High School. He went on to earn a degree in Geography from Illinois State University, then moved to the St Louis area, where he was a pioneer in the computer programming field for the US Defense Mapping Agency Aeronautics Center (now National Imagery and Mapping Agency) until his retirement. Bob was a longtime AAU/USS Swimming Official, as well as an advanced photographer who developed his own film. He also was an enthusiastic cyclist, logging over a hundred thousand cross-country miles. He enjoyed camping, nature, sports, Kendall County history, folk music, and playing the dulcimer. After retirement, Bob became an accomplished wood carver as a member of the Belleville Holzschnitzers wood carving club, exhibiting at national wood carving shows for over twenty years. He had recently moved to Lisbon, IL to be near family members. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister Evelyn (La Verne) Anderson, former spouse Harriet (nee Hendrickson) Jager, and partner Shirley Saunders. He is survived by his brother, Linn (Elizabeth) Jager of Yorkville, children Diane (Steve) Yelvington of Savannah, GA; Bill (Reja) Jager of Newark; and Tom (Becky) Jager of Moscow, ID. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Bridget (Paul) Buckley, Paige Yelvington, Marta Yelvington, Kari Jager, Levi Jager, Renni Jager, Wyatt Jager, and Cy Jager, his close nephews Lyle (Judy) Anderson, Ron (Linda) Anderson, and Clyde (Linda) Anderson, and many step grandchildren. There will be a memorial service for Bob Jager held on Sunday, May 25th, at 2:00 pm at the Plattville United Methodist Church, 13025 Church Rd (Church & Plattville Rds.), Yorkville, IL 60560 (815/475-4128), with a light meal to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Plattville Cemetery Association, c/o Alice Olson (Treasurer), PO Box 209, Sandwich, IL 60548. In accordance with Bobs wishes, a memorial bench will be placed at the cemetery, as he often stopped to rest at cemeteries during his cycling adventures.
