Lucky One Written by Ralph Williams and Jermaine Layton I actually wrote this song about 7 years ago and I wrote it as a ballad. When I pulled it out of my song book and looked it over again, I felt it needed a re-do, and it needed to be up-tempo and more contemporary. I knew I wanted the horn section doing some really hot runs and I felt that the bass was going to have to be a driving factor. So, one more time I called on my music director (Jermaine Layton) and explained what I wanted to do. He felt I needed to change the key and force myself to reach for some new notes. We played around with it for a bit and things started to come together. Jermaine really worked his magic. He was so instrumental on this one that he is now the co-writer with me. It is so nice working with someone who really understands what I want to get done, and then can make it happen. Extra special props to Bryan Meggison on Saxophone. Bryan is a sic musician! He really nailed the solo. Also, major props to Lio Saenz on Trumpet. He is one of the worlds very best. There was only one guy we wanted on bass, and that was DeMarcus Walker. Man he is good!! By the time Jermaine put the keys in play, and King Robinson, Jr. laid down the drum tracks, I was ready to do my vocal track.
