Here is our method of locating and seeing the COMET in the sky. Study the charts. Check out the sky whenever possible to get a feel for where everything is located. Note some reference points on the chart. I use Sirius (the brightest star in the sky) and Rigel, in ORION. Go to darker sky, wait for 20 minutes without light of any kind to allow your eyes to adjust. look directly overhead. Use binoculars and/or a camera with zoom lense on a tripod and preferably a laptop/tablet to control it. Please feel free to ask for help to find and photograph this beautiful object in our skies. From left to right I look at Matariki (Pleiades aka Subaru) then at the Hyades, then Orion (the belt and/or the handle to the pot), across to Sirius. Then I look at Rigel, just above Orion, and make a triangle with Rigel and Sirius. I know that COMET Lovejoy is at the third point in a triangle above Orion. Almost due East and almost overhead currently in late December, New Zealand. It has almost no colour to the naked eye, and it looks like a blob, just like a globular cluster. If you cant see it directly, try looking slightly away, thats called averted vision because the retina has a blank spot for looking directly, that puts the comet on a more sensitive part of the eyes retina.
