Here is our story. When my oldest daughter was 18 months old, I took her in for her well child as usual, even though she had a little cold. She received the MMR and the dtap. The next day she got a horrendous cough, and severe vomiting and diarrhea. It persisted. After 3 days, I took her back in and they said it was a viral infection and she would get over it. One week later, she was still coughing like crazy, vomiting multiple times a day, and still had uncontrollable diarrhea. I took her in to an Urgent Care. They said it was a bacterial infection and gave her antibiotics. The antibiotics did nothing. After 10 days I took her in yet again, and they said it was a new viral infection and she was just a sickly kid. Her cough was awful, she had a hard time breathing. She was throwing up so much that just a 15 minute drive to my moms house would result in me cleaning out the car. This went on for THREE months. We ended up throwing a way a car seat because we could not get the smell out of it. Finally, after three months of vomiting and diarrhea every single day, that stopped. My little girl lost 10 pounds from 18 to 21 months old. Her cough did not stop though. After another month of that she was finally diagnosed with asthma. Months later a friend of mine suggested it was a vaccine reaction. I read the inserts, and for the dtap vaccine that she was given, it lists Gastrointestinal disorders with severe vomiting and diarrhea, and respiratory disorders as side effects. It was then that I decided to not further vaccinate my children. My oldest is now 4 and we finally have her asthma under control.
