Here is some good news: Cheaper gas prices helps city, school budgets (in addition to helping your wallet, of course) With gas prices at less than $2 a gallon, city and other local officials are watching to see what those lower prices mean for city budgets and gas tax revenue. Mayor Scott Eisenhauer said the lower gas prices “have a lot of direct and indirect benefits” to the city. “For one, it certainly helps within our own expenses,” Eisenhauer said. “It’s hard to put an exact number to it because usage year to year is not always the same.” The two main benefits are the city is seeing less expense through city department budgets and residents are putting more gas in their tanks, meaning more money for road repair and replacement, he said.
