Here is something Ive noticed that I found worth ranting about. So, I bought the first season of the rebooted Cosmos, and after watching a few episodes, Ive noticed a few facts. Scientific thought, ever since the dawn of written history, has been oppressed by religious and political (and often those two are not distinct) leaders and regimes. The ancient Chinese, the Romans, Catholics, the Greeks, Italians, Spanish, and especially the Arabs have implemented regimes that murdered countless numbers of people to suppress any kind of revolutionary or even contradictory thought to the powers in command (Copernicus, Galileo, Bruno, Mao Tzus followers, Thomas More, etc), and if one looks closely at society and culture today, one can still witness the effects of political, religious and social oppression on scientific and social development. In plain English, the totalitarian religious regimes of the past have set science and societal development at least 10,000 years and the effects are still being seen today. People rally against social progress because of ideas forcefully instilled during a dark, ignorant, totalitarian period of human history.
