Here is something a bit different! These green flowering bottlebrushes (Callistemon pinifolius green form) were planted about 25 years ago and seem to be getting better with age. They have never been watered or pruned and have grown to about 3 metres tall. When they are flowering in November/December, they are alive with all sorts of honeyeaters and the bees love them. The rest of the year, some of the small species of birds frequent them looking for some dense cover and the odd bug to eat. In a windbreak situation, it will provide some low shelter that will block the wind when they are planted below the taller and faster growing Eucalypts. Well worth including as a functional and attractive windbreak species. To discuss your planting requirements, contact Rob on 0419 006 176 or grandridgenursery@bigpond.
