Here is something all Texans should know... Our State Reps will vote on a Speaker of the House on Tuesday. The incumbent, Joe Straus, was just endorsed by every Democrat. Unfortunately he also has the majority of Republicans on his side at this point. The challenger, Scott Turner, has fewer votes from the State Reps, but the clear majority from the actual citizens of Texas. In fact, the Republican parties in 20 counties have passed resolutions stating they want a new speaker (17 naming Turner by name). One-third of SREC Chairs (executive committee) have endorsed Rep. Turner, plus countless Precinct Chairs, 1000s of citizens and nearly all Tea Party, Republican clubs and liberty groups. Straus, on the other hand, is so controversial he was asked to NOT attend the last National GOP Convention, and he was booed off the stage at the State Convention. And yet, for some reason, the majority of State Reps will vote for him to keep his title. Last session under Joe Straus, the most liberal Democrat won the vote 80% of the time, while the most conservative Republican won only 32% of the time... and all this when Republicans had a near super majority! The blame is on the Speaker. If you are tired of voting in conservatives only to have liberals still running the show, it is not too late to contact your State Rep. You can look up your Rep at this link provided here. Ask him/her to vote for Scott Turner for Speaker.
