Here is the 5th unique insight on Christ from the Book of Mormon: 5. ONE REASON FOR CHRIST’S ATONEMENT WAS TO APPEASE JUSTICE. This concept is well known, yet only the Book of Mormon clearly teaches that the Savior’s atonement “satisfied the demands of justice.” Mosiah 15:9; see also Alma 42:15. 7 And lo, he shall suffer temptations, and pain of body, hunger, thirst, and fatigue, even more than man can suffer, except it be unto death; for behold, blood cometh from every pore, so great shall be his anguish for the wickedness and the abominations of his people. The Prophet Abinadi in the Book of Mormon tells how Christ satisfied the demands of justice: 9 Having ascended into heaven, having the bowels of mercy; being filled with compassion towards the children of men; standing betwixt them and justice; having broken the bands of death, taken upon himself their iniquity and their transgressions, having redeemed them, and satisfied the demands of justice. Mosiah 15:9 15 And now, the plan of mercy could not be brought about except an atonement should be made; therefore God himself atoneth for the sins of the world, to bring about the plan of mercy, to appease the demands of justice, that God might be a perfect, just God, and a merciful God also. Alma 42:15
