Here is the Vets match report from their game on 26 - TopicsExpress

Here is the Vets match report from their game on 26 October: This was a game that had almost everything: goals, penalties, controversy, a red card with all that was missing was a mass brawl - that that happened on the adjacent pitch although to be fair it was more handbags than a punch up. So on a blustery windy day we once again found ourselves short of strikers so Ian & Richard Brooks were pressed into service up front. We started slowly & could not get our foot on the ball to exploit the large pitch we were playing on. Alleyns were sharper & quicker to the ball & took the lead when one of their strikers beat the offside trap to score. This was the shock that we needed to start playing & whilst the half yielded no more goals our play up until the final third was good but the the final ball was often lacking. Rob Cormack had a long distant header saved & we should have tried to exploit the pace of Chris Purvis more. Into the second half our plans were dealt a blow early doors as Rob collided with their keeper which left him concussed with bruised ribs. It was the case of the immovable object meeting an irresistible force but reports of a minor earthquake on Wimbledon Common were unfounded. We drew level when one of their defenders handled a cross from the left & Phil Murphy tucked the resulting penalty away with aplomb. The controversy came about 10 minutes late when their keeper tipped the ball away just before colliding with Simon & the ref gave us a rather fortunate penalty. This prompted a stream of invective from their keeper who then stormed off the pitch before the ref could take any disciplinary action. With another of their players taking the keepers shirt his first job was to pick the ball out of the net as Phil calmly slotted the ball into the same corner as the first penalty. Game on as we were now in the ascendancy with returning but Vets new boy Glen Sanger showing some nice touches on midfield. I cant remember who played the ball forward to Ian Donegan but he ran clear to confidently slide the ball past their keeper. Game over, or so it should have been with only 15 minutes to play but somehow we let the lead slip. Not sure about the details of their second goal but their third came when we gave the ball away cheaply in the middle of the park & although we won it back we then gave it away on the edge of our box for them to score. By this time their keeper had put his toys back in the pram & was back in goal as the game went into extra time. We looked the stronger team & Simon was unlucky in a one on one with their keeper who stood up well. The turning point came from an Alleyns attack as Plum made a save & there were a couple of blocks with the final one seeing Colin tipping the ball over the bar with his arm. Red card & penalty from which they scored. We went to three at the back & tried in vain to get a goal to take the game to a penalty shoot out but despite a couple of half chances could not get the vital goal. So cup glory over for another season & a disappointing end to a game we should have won. We just have to remember we win & lose together.
