Here is the e-mail I sent to our Minister of Justice, the Honourable James Allum at [email protected] regarding Ron Siwicki. I encourage you to do the same. Attention: Honourable James Allum Dear Mr. Minister, I am writing on behalf of my dear friend, Ron Siwicki, who has been charged with criminal negligence in the death of his mother. I have included the letter of support (in parenthesis) I provided his lawyer prior to his bail hearing on January 5th, 2015. Thankfully, this kind and extremely introverted man was granted bail, due in part to the huge turnout of support for his release. I am saddened by the news that Ron Siwicki has been charged with criminal neglect in the death of his mother. I have known Ron and his family for almost 50 years, and the thought of someone as kind and compassionate as Ron being charged with a criminal offence is hard to accept. Furthermore, Ron being held at the Remand Centre is extremely cruel given the devotion to his mother after his father passed away in 1996, and even more recently when her health declined but she begged him to let her stay at home rather than be institutionalized. You should know that his only sibling, his sister Carol, passed away a couple of years ago which put even more pressure on Ron as a caregiver. I know that Ron suffered emotionally as he struggled to provide the kind of care his mother asked of him. Ron is not a threat to society and he should not be treated as a criminal. But this miscarriage of justice is far from being over for this fragile and emotionally distraught man who could now, according to prosecutors, face further charges up to and including murder. I believe the treatment of this poor man represents the cruelest display of mans inhumanity towards another human-being I have seen in a long time. As a retired Federal Government employee, I know that a Minister in your position can put a stop to the predatory approach that we, as a community, have witnessed in recent days. Please urge the people in your department to do their homework and get to the truth, rather than relying on speculation and getting caught up in the sensationalism and feeding frenzy of the media. I would be honoured to provide relevant and real-life evidence of the loving and devoted son Ron Siwicki was to his mother, especially if it helped in getting all charges against him dropped. Now that would be justice! Kindest regards, Stan Spak
