Here is the latest on our Daddy: yesterday he and I met with the heart surgeon. Earlier this month he had a heart cath that revealed blockages in several arteries in his heart. At that time the cardiologist recommended quadruple bypass surgery. While in the hospital Daddy met Dr. Harville (the surgeon) who told us that he felt Daddy was at too high risk for major complications post op because he has end stage COPD. During his stay, he had several pre-op tests done including PFTs (pulmonary function test) and ultrasound of his carotid arteries. Blockages found there too. He was sent home on cardiac meds with no clear plan for surgery. That was 3 weeks ago. Since then I have tried and failed to get him into cardiac rehab because he does not have a diagnosis that Medicare will reimburse for. He has been confused and frustrated by the lack of action since he was told he had major blockages and was at risk for a massive heart attack then sent home to wait 3 weeks for an office visit with the surgeon. Why we had to wait is beyond me. Nothing was said at that appointment yesterday that was not said at the hospital the day he had the heart cath. The surgeon again explained that Daddy was at too high risk of complications after surgery. Complications that could very well lead to his death. So now we have to wait to get him back in with cardiologist to discuss putting in a stent or two to improve his heart function as much as possible and treat the rest with cardiac meds. I am so frustrated! This was all discussed while at the hospital. Dr. Adams (cardiologist) came in on day two and mapped out his plan for 2 stents. He even talked about doing it the following week. Why he changed his mind and decided to put a hold on that plan-I have no idea! So now we wait to go to an office visit with him. So he can tell us the exact same thing he told us at the hospital, Im sure. See why I am frustrated? These delays could very well cost Daddy his life! In the meantime I ask that you please pray for Daddy. Pray that The Lord will strengthen and sustain him until we can get him in for the stents. Pray he will be able to tolerate the surgery, as he is at high risk for complications with that procedure as well. Pray for peace for him. He is confused by all this and it makes him anxious. And please pray for us. It has not even been a year since we lost our Mommy. Going through this so soon after her death with Daddy is emotionally draining. I so want him to just feel better and be well. His good days are few and far between. He struggles every day with pain, difficulty breathing, lethargy and confusion. We worry constantly about him. Thanks for taking the time to read all this. And thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. God bless.
