Here is the latest on the library, now I have calmed down enough - TopicsExpress

Here is the latest on the library, now I have calmed down enough to put something on here. On 15th. December Labour Councillors voted to reduced all libraries to 18 hours. Cllr. Phil Davies, the Leader of the Council, promised that Library users will be consulted on the variation of opening hours. However last night, Joe Blott one of the Council’s Strategic Directors wrote to me and all the Chairs of Friends of Library Groups dictating to them what hours Libraries will be open. This he has done without consulting users and without telling the library staff. Kirsten only found out last night because I copied the email I received to all the committee of the Friends of Greasby Library. It is possible that those libraries with friends group may not even be aware yet of what is happening. Greasby has been allotted 11am to 5 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and 9am to 3 pm on Saturdays. This will curtail a lot of activities and also probably mean the end of the Friends as we will not be able to hold evening events and events for the children and we will not be able to fund a great deal of the maintenance that we pay for at the moment. These changes will take place from Monday 12th. January. Why is it not a surprise that these changes will be implemented when the libraries are shut over Christmas and people are busy? Here is Joe Blotts email - [email protected] - I dont need to spell out what you need to do with it ... do I?
