Here is the latest update on my dad. They did a second culture and it did come back positive for MRSA. Many people actually contract that bacteria in hospital settings, so it is sometimes better to send patients home with a picc line and have home health care provide the antibiotics through an IV. So he had a picc line put in and was just discharged. Home health care will be here first thing tomorrow to bring more supplies. The hospital provided enough for tonight. I have done several picc lines so that wont be a problem. It is not uncommon for someone, especially a diabetic to be on vancomycin for up to six weeks. Home health will be checking his kidney functions and he will be seeing the surgeon on a weekly basis to check on how he is progressing and to make sure the infection is not spreading. Right now we are all exhausted. As soon as he is home and comfortable my mom and I will probably turn our phones off so we can get some rest. My family really appreciates all of the kind words and everything everyone has done for us during this time.
