Here is the new release from the Sheriffs Office. We will be emailing parents of Hays High School this afternoon. The news release from the Sheriffs Office to local news media identifies the student; however, because of federal student privacy laws we are not allowed to share that information from the school district: Sheriffs Office Statement: On Wednesday, October 30, 2014, the Hays County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a possible threat to faculty and students at Jacks C. Hays High School in Kyle, Texas. The report alleged that a student of the school had threatened violence to fellow students and employees of the district. An investigation began late last night to identify the suspect and determine the validity of the threats. Detectives were able to corroborate the information received and executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence early this morning. [Student Name Redacted] The suspect disclosed that he had made statements consistent with the allegations although he had no intention of acting on the threats. The suspect was arrested and charged with: TERRORISTIC THREAT, TEXAS PENAL CODE 22.07, 3RD DEGREE FELONY He remains in custody of the Hays County Jail with a $50,000 Bond. Based on the investigative information obtained, we are confident that [student name redacted] acted alone and the threat to the school and its occupants has been thwarted. The case is currently under investigation. We will forward any additional information to the media outlets as it becomes available for dissemination.
