Here is the press release from MCCATFBT: RE: Food and Beverage Tax Vote/Consideration Monroe County Citizens Against the Food and Beverage Tax founder, William Ellis, announces the groups full support of the decision of the Monroe County Council to “…more thoroughly investigate…” the option of funding any proposed expansion via an Innkeepers Tax increase. “During this process, person after person, from all professions and all income levels came to meetings to let the County Council know that a 1%, regressive, Food and Beverage Tax was not something the public supported. To add to this, surveys were conducted at the Monroe County Fair that found 81% of respondents did not want this avenue of funding. With all this input, it was refreshing to hear that the County Council was not only listening, but responding to our concerns. We do hope that this future discussion, on funding, include business members and tax payers from the entire community so we do not have any confusion on what the differing interests want.
