Here is the reply from the Editor of The Hindu (Tamil): On Wednesday, September 17, 2014 1:05 PM, Asokan K. wrote: Dear Mr Udhayakumar, Thanks for the advise and witful comments... I can understand the reason behind your wrath. Unfortunately, we are the team who can not be influenced by usual techniques of NGOs like you. We are carrying a follow up news today, for which you can add your comment if you wish. Yesterday, our correspondent was not able to reach you for the reason best known to you. Your latest contact number please... Asokan. Please note: [1] What I wrote was not witful comments but genuine concerns which only kind and caring human beings and professionals would appreciate. [2] It is very interesting that the editor is bringing in his team into the picture now making them accountable for his own recklessness, biases and prejudices. [3] How did I or my friends try to influence this editor or his team members? What techniques did we use? Can he elaborate with concrete examples? The editor cannot even distinguish between an NGO and a peoples movement. With this kind of shallowness and haughtiness, one can only expect recklessness and unthoughtfulness from the people concerned. [4] The editor says: We are carrying a follow up news today, for which you can add your comment if you wish. Wow, what a great example of professionalism! When I complained a few months back about the Udayakumar cheating the fishermen story, the editor asked one of his reporters talk to me and magnanimously permitted ONLY a sentence in the follow-up story. Now he is asking for your comment if you wish. Way to go, Mr. Editor! [5] The great editor says a great non-truth: Yesterday, our correspondent was not able to reach you for the reason best known to you. Which correspondent tried to contact me? At what time? Anyone with some common sense and a modicum of intelligence can understand the reasons why reporters could not talk to someone who was held at the immigration office for closer scrutiny at the airport. [6] The editor finally asks for Your latest contact number please... If the editor or his team members do not have my latest contact number, how did his reporter try to contact me? I have had the same phone number and email addresses for ever. While the editor comes up with unethical and unprofessional excuses for his recklessness, the owners and the management team keep a strict silence. Since some of them share the editors same biases and prejudices against struggling people and anti-nuclear activism, they may even encourge the editor in his journalistic crusade. When all is said and done, journalism is all about making more money and enhancing ones personal prestige and power. Right? Best regards S. P. Udayakumar
