Here is the scene entitled She Sleeps from the film and musical score of Dancing With The Wind. This selection was originally crafted as a piano piece, but to evoke the feelings of dark sleepiness and calm glassy water, I wound up playing it through my Roland Keyboard set to a soft string PAD setting. However, if you listen intently there is one moment wherein a solitary piano note is placed to simulate the gentle sound of a main halyard tapping gently against a rocking mast at around the :59 second mark. We tried to show how everyone and everything is sleeping; the boats, the marina, the captain and crew, and even the feature boat herself. Editing this scene with Ken Veenstra was a lot of fun because there are no hard strikes musically and it allowed us to use slower cross fades and/or gentle motions unlike other segments of the film where we had a steady beat and/or hard percussion to deal with in mixing the visual with the audio. Especially interesting to me was how to portray in the film the notion that boat itself is dreaming... check out the 2:00 minute mark and that was our attempt to show what the boat dreams of in her sleep.
