Here is the scoop for all that heard.. Or have not yet.. Saturday while at Detroit lake.. Gertrud Hodgin was stepping off the front of a boat onto the beach and broke her patella and tibea bones. (patella holds the knee to the tibea and is the weight bearing bone). when she stepped off the boat her knee gave out, bringing her body down onto her already buckled leg.. Which in turn was directly over a rock.. Which snapped her leg bone. we got her back into the boat..... Back to the docks.. Where after almost an hour in the hot sun later the emts were able to get her off the boat and into the ambulance. Another hour ride to the hospital.. Where they reset the tibea bone. (turns out more painful than the initial break). That was the only time our tough old German cried! Today she will most likely have surgery on the knee bone.. We are meeting with the specialists and surgeon this morning. Her health otherwise is good and she asked them to not give her such heavy doses of pain meds because she does not want to sleep so much lol. and in normal Gertrud fashion she is keeping all the staff smiling and laughing. (you cannot keep a good woman down!) I took pictures and she is okay with me sharing some.. She is at the Salem hospital for those that have asked. stay tuned for any new information.
