Here is the ticket booth at the Colony Theatre which is located on 59th Street just west of Kedzie Avenue. It was built in 1926. I saw many, many movies inside this place. It was such a different experience to go out to a movie years ago. There were several ushers in uniform who walked about. Soda purchased at the snack bar could not be brought inside the theatre because everything was carpeted. Movie houses now have cement floors which are simply hosed down at the end of each day. More practical perhaps but the living room feeling it is not. The Colony tried to revamp and hosted rock concerts in the 1980’s but has now been vacant for many years. I took this photo in August of 2014.
