Here is the video from yesterday.. I would like to write a little story about the rockstar and I.. its been a long journey and thats why this one saddle is a big deal. When I first started riding him he ran up the fence on the first barrel. At that time we went to the right barrel first. He would never run up the fence at home or even during exhibitions. After awhile we went to vet after vet after vet. Iowa state, every local vet around here, grand island, etc. Noone could find anything wrong. After a lot of frustration we were doomed at what to do. Many entry fees wasted, and many many tears. We started injecting hocks and thought that was our key. I then started LOPING to the first barrel and he was winning at that pace but I realized that I dont want to lope I want to run. I was then determined that I could do it. Advice from many other competitors I took him to the left barrel. I was so nervous ( I have never went to the left and now im going to try it on a horse that might not turn TWO barrels?) With not being experienced enough I thought it was best to take a couple months off and send him to my good friend Brenda Ellens. She did very well with him and helped both of us become more confident with the change. About 3 years ago I noticed swelling on his back fetlocks. Worried that it might be major we took him to DLAC and had an ultrasound done. He was then diagnosed with an annular ligament problem. It was 1in in diameter at that time and we injected it to stay on the safe side. The last three years it has gotten significantly worse. This year I went and did another ultrasound. The ligament is now 3in in diameter. At 4 or 5 in we may have to do surgery. (If you dont know what the annular ligament is google it) Surgery is never an easy word to handle. After seein the swelling it was then when I started sweat wrapping him every day, using linaments, Back on track, and injecting more often. Just one week ago I was worried hed never run again. The swelling was up to his hock and he was not comfortable, everything I tried would not work!! After sleepless nights I took him to the wonderful Teri Todd on Monday. Flexed his legs and he was still sound. So what do you do??? We ended up re injecting him. :( Teri recently purchased a laser and I thank the lord she did.!! The swelling is nearly GONE!!! It was a miracle. After two laser treatments this week he had a spring in his step again!! So to end the long boring story I tell everyone to NEVER GIVE UP and PRAY!!! After he won the whole barrel race yesterday I thanked my lucky stars and my supporters!! I would have never dreamed of this happening and I still dont think it has sunk in!!! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!
