Here is video of me singing the Italian National Anthem from last night! It was so much fun! You can only see me when Im rolling up because my phone ran out of space, but luckily my dad was taking video too from the back! It was extremely liberating. This was the first time I legitimately performed since this time last year. I had almost forgotten the feeling. Everyone was very kind and seemed to enjoy it; they even gave me a standing ovation which I was not expecting. (In fact, this year was the year of standing ovations! So much love and support for everyone all around! It was really wonderful!) Also, I DANCED LAST NIGHT. Spun around and everything! Thanks to my good friend and former employer from when I was in high school and college Mr. Gabe Caporale! (I used to be a secretary at his real estate company; let me know if you need a referral in the area!) I honestly didnt know if I could and not look like an idiot. Dancing has been the thing Ive missed most since using a wheelchair regularly. Sometimes when I would be out at night where there was dancing, I would stop and watch others dancing, feeling a mix of joy and sadness, quietly trying to figure out how I might achieve the same moves but in my chair. I would always be too afraid to actually try. Last night night, I was feeling brave when Mr. Caporale and I met near the dance floor, and Im so happy I accepted his offer! I had the time of my life! I learned I am much stronger than I thought I was and have pretty decent control of my chair. Honestly, when you are with someone who sees you as you, youre just dancing like normal. It didnt feel much different from how I used to dance. I think it was even more fun because now I dont get hurt and tired!
