Here is what is going in Colorado through midweek. We have a dying system over the state and then another one that will be moving into Colorado Monday afternoon, with its effects being felt into Wednesday morning in some areas. I am not terribly impressed with the snowfall totals in the eastern half of the state, regarding the current system. The biggest totals will be in the southwestern part of the state, regarding the next storm system (getting to you all in Durango further down). If you look at the two different snow model solutions that I uploaded, it tells you everything you need to know about who is going to get the most snow in storm 2. I have circled a few of the areas that give you all some perspective as to what parts of the state you are looking at. In both maps, the green circled area is Larimer County. The white circle is Boulder County. The red circle is Denver Metro. The yellow circle is roughly the Palmer Divide/Monument Hill area. And the orange area is the Durango area. We have a several new folks from Durango on Weather Talk so I will now be covering their area. First off for the eastern half of the state, unless the next system takes a more northerly track, I am seeing no more than 1 to 3 inches in Larimer (including Estes Park, Pinewood Springs and Fort Collins) and Boulder Counties (including Lyons, Boulder, Longmont, Nederland and Allenspark.), extending through Denver Metro. As you get out over the eastern plains, except for a swath of 1 to 2 inches east of the Palmer Divide area, expect very little out your way. As far the Palmer Divide/Monument Hill area south of Castle Rock, you all could see up to 6 inches. The range I am going with right now is 2 to 6 inches. I may have to up those totals, depending on what I see in the 5pm computer model runs. Any change in the storm track in storm number 2 (late Monday into Wednesday morning could bring more snow to the above-mentioned counties. Ill be analyzing and monitoring the next storm closely. PS: If your town wasnt mentioned above, please know that the rest of the locations in the northern half of the state will fall in the 1 to 3 inch range except for the Palmer Lake/Monument Hill area. As you all can see, the biggest totals will be in the Durango area where 4 to 10 inches will fall in and around Durango and possibly a foot plus in the Purgatory ski area north of town. The reason for the big range is that I am not totally sold on just what this system is going to do. There has been some bouncing around in the computer models, but the consensus is leaning towards the higher end. The timing will be Monday afternoon into early Wednesday morning. I am still waiting on the 5pm computer models to see if I need to up these totals. I might be a bit conservative right now, but that is because not all the models are blowing this system up. Ill keep you all updated and will make changes if I see anything different in the next round of computer models. I should also mention a Winter Storm Warning is currently in effect for the Durango area Monday 6pm to Tuesday 6pm. Ill be in the Weather Center most of the night and all day on Monday. More updates to come on the oncoming developing storm system. Hope you all had a great weekend! :-)
