Here is what is on my mind....photography. Competition, comparison, the whole bit. Bottom line...I shoot what I like to shoot. I sometimes feel called to go after a certain shot or a certain feel. Sometimes I am successful....sometimes I am not. But I keep trying. I am going through older photos Ive shot over the past year. Even when I missed the look I was going for, I typically keep the shot and then someday (like today) I might find time to play around and create an image I appreciate. I say this because in the past I have belonged to groups that are oddly critical of how an image is created. For instance....many many photographers will tell you that using the pop-up flash on our cameras is a sign of inexperience....almost an embarrassment. However, those same people would carry on over my excellent lighting choice on an image when....in reality....my lighting was created from a pop up flash. I rarely plan on using it, but when I find myself in need of something....it is nice to have. I shoot what I like. I have a style. Yes...I change that style from time to time....I also step out of my comfort zone on purpose at times....sometimes it is successful....sometimes not. I enjoy viewing other styles. Some I am admittedly jealous of. Perfectly lit outdoor photos.....I am indeed jealous. I like to shoot outdoors, but I dont like the umbrellas, reflectors, all that jazz. It just isnt MY style. So my shots will have some shadows....some hot spots. I am my worst critic. I am also a rambler at times when I type and am tired. So I will now sign off and head to bed. Keep shooting.
