Here is your weekends weather thanks to Chris Nitsopoulos and Oz Cyclone Chasers. GENERAL OVERVIEW A humid and light northerly airstream associated with the monsoon has kicked in over the Townsville area. Conditions across the inshore waters will be ideal throughout the weekend. HOWEVER, also associated with the light monsoonal air will be a period of enhanced thunderstorm activity. Most of these storms will develop over land during the day and are likely to push off the coast in the evening or overnight. Please be aware storms may bring with them unexpected squalls up to 30 knots at times. Seas in general will be less than a metre. Friday Afternoon/evening. A moderate to fresh North to North-Easterly seabreeze is expected this afternoon particularly around the Northern beaches district with 12-15 knots being forecast by computer models. Otherwise we will see light winds of between 3-9 knots. Overnight Friday. Moderate North to North-north-west winds overnight anywhere to the East and north of Magnetic Island otherwise winds will be light and variable close inshore. Saturday morning to lunch time. Very light winds expected in the Townsville region. The seabreeze kicks in around mid-day and may get up to about 10 knots. The strongest of the sea breeze will affect the area just offshore from Picnic Bay and may get up to about 15 knots at times. Saturday afternoon/evening. Light E to NE winds expected of between 5-10 knots. Overnight Saturday. Light North to North-Westerly winds expected at between 5-10 knots. Sunday morning to lunch time. Very light north-westerly winds in the morning before we see a Northerly seabreeze at 10-15knots kick in particularly between Pallaranda and Bushland Beach. Winds continuing to remain light south of Townsville. Sunday afternoon/evening. 10-15knot NW winds developing to the east and north of Magnetic Island. Winds to the west of Magnetic Island remaining light and NW. Overnight Sunday. Light and variable winds close inshore, NW winds at 5-12 knots East of magnetic Island.
