Here it is...... The Point Cook Masters rose to the top of their league after a hat-trick of victories against a hapless and poorly disciplined Williamstown FC in their 3rd round match of the season. A hat-trick from marquee Geoff and a tap in from Matt was enough to secure the 3 points against the local bayside rivals in front of a great crowd of local support on a bye weekend. The Masters were just about full strength with only John & Zoran being unavailable from an in form squad. Super-sub Danny was extremely unlucky to warm the pines. Tony sometimes referred to as ‘Mc Clean’ pulled on the gloves and it was with great anticipation for Kev Dupes who was making his club debut!! The game kicked off and we quickly settled into a nice rhythm. Unfortunately though, we seemed to be a bit off our best – in all departments. Our defensive line was a bit shaky at times, our mid-field was under the pump from their physical style of play and our strike force, just couldn’t seem to take advantage but even still WFC were hardly in the game. Despite our errant passing creating opportunities for WFC, Tony stood strong in goals and kept us very untroubled. The Masters were creating chances left, right and centre, not least of all Paul who was turning and rolling defenders at will, but couldn’t make the most of it – even talisman Geoff failed to put one away, making their keeper look better than he was. However, it was Geoff who opened Williamstown FC up with an expansive switch to hard running Joe on the right flank. With a sweet first touch and a low and hard cross, Joe laced one in and it was none other than Geoff who got on the end of it and duly smashed it in on 24 minutes to have the old onion bag bulging for the first of the day. 1 nil to the Masters to our supporters great delight. Manager Extradoniaire Steve was quick to ring in the changes subbing in Angus for his first run since a Singapore Fling. Unfortunately though, Williamstown were gifted a chance on 36 minutes. A poor clearance gave Tony no chance and the Masters were scratching their heads at 1 all – pour quois? Fortunately, we re-grouped and it was after a great passing move, that Geoff was released to break their off side trap and then find a hard running Matty to tap in (off the post) our second to take us into half time 2-1 up. At half time, Steve rang in the subs. Daz and Gilb were put into the centre of defence and it immediately paid dividends. Kam came on at the right wing back role and showed his pace and flair and even though Andy was adding incredibly to his utility role with his 79th positional change, we began to take charge. Williamstown started to fall apart, with a combination of injuries and a straight red card for one of their players, left the Jets in total domination. Geoff collected the ball on the 79th minute and rounded a couple of static defenders and slotted his brace with his left foot. This was only bettered on 81 minutes when he unleashed a screamer into the top right corner and followed it up with some of the dodgiest tip toe dancing celebration that will never be spoken of again. Gus, Charlie, Voj and Paul will look back at this match as an opportunity lost to add to their own goal scoring tallies, but the main thing was the result and all the lads getting important pitch time that will no doubt be important moving forward. Thanks to Zoran who ran the line and our supporters who braved the conditions. Joey out
