Here it is Wednesday and the first call wasn’t until after 9:00 AM. So anyway, you want to know what my opinion is about Loudonville and its so-called Great Mohican Pow-Wow. Let’s be clear, this is my opinion, Loudonville is NOT a Pow-Wow. It is a show which a man, a white man to be precise, makes money by exhibiting America’s Indians. With regards to what transpired this past weekend, it was destine to happen as we the Native community has allowed it for far too long. I noticed no one talked of cultural genocide, only the mentioning of the abuse and thievery of cultural identity. Those in attendance and those involved should not only reevaluate the situation but look at their participation as well. Yes, the action was unwarranted but after reading the comments the reasoning of both parties are evident of the lack of cultural knowledge and protocol. You can’t fix an abuser; it is what it is, walk away. If you allow it to continue then you yourself become the problem. They cannot take away our self-respect if we do not give it to them.
