Here she is ladies & gents, my sister Connie L. Walker with yet another piece on The National. I honestly cannot convey the pride and admiration that I feel every time I get the opportunity to see her showcase her talent and dedication. Two words that always, always come to mind when I think of my sister Connie are perseverance and resiliency, which can be easily displayed by not only this story, but her entire career. She was always an amazing role model growing up not only for me, but for my siblings and members of my community. She was a little older than us, but she would read me & my sisters books and ask us about our days and lives and what was happening. It was amazing to have that cool sibling that cared and tried enriching our lives. To this day there are still some folks that don’t know that she’s my sister, and I just have to say it’s one of the best feelings in the world when I get to say that “yeah, she’s my sister”. I say this lots, but it’s one thing that I’ll never tire of, and something that I don’t think that can be ever said enough and that’s ‘I love you so much and am so proud of you’ :)
