She came, sang and won, took the hearts of the band and all the NIGHTWISH-fans by assault. The brandnew Live-DVD Showtime, Storytime is dedicated to her and includes the breathtaking Headliner show performed at this years Wacken Open Air such as the fulminant documentary with the perfectly chosen title Please learn the setlist in 48 hours which takes two hours. Addition to the family This decision was self-evident for us, begins Mastermind and composer of exception Tuomas Holopainen. We left it open consciously, but after the great time with Floor there was no reason for us to search for a new singer anymore. After the USA tournee we were all sure that we wanted to continue with Floor, but did not ask her yet. After the festivals we did and asked her if she wanted to stay as a permanent member. I have to admit that I already knew how she would be deciding because she was highly motivated from the start, really happy and did everything with her full heart. Actually we wanted to publish these news right at christmas, but since the release of Showtime, Storytime in which Floor takes center stage so much, there was no need to keep these news a secret any longer. There never was a Plan B, says Tuomas, the Dutch woman had always been the singer they had wished for. She had proved that she could cope with being the singer and she with her strong soprano voice she will lead Nightwish to new dimensions. Inbetween the keyboarder has already started to write songs for a new album, there it was said back to the roots - but still he does not mean going back to the past. Together with Tarja we have produced five wonderful,operatic metalalbums, which we are very proud of and which will always be an important part of our story, but we dont want to get back there. Floor has a very many-sided voice which will offer us so many new opportunities. This is what the future will show, because we are at the very beginning of the songwriting-process. But the Nightwish family has gained another member, because besides Floor there is flute-player Troy Donockley who joined the band for permanent membership. Troy was with us the whole 18 months Imaginaerum-Tournee. He has become such an important part of the band, so it was only natural to welcome him as a permanent member as well. Until now he does not play much on live stage music, but I know for sure that this part will increase a lot on the new tracks. He plays a lot of diverse flutes and he is a good singer so that he could not only sing back-vocals, but maybe some lines of lead-vocals. Additionally he plays the acoustic guitar really well and some exotic instruments. Apart from that he has nice character traits and brings so much warmth and light into the band.An he s a magician who never fails to surprise us with his tricks., smiles the charismatic keyboarder who is obviously really happy that the chaotic change of musicians has turned out to be good in the end. Cooperative declaration of love The frontwoman, who is today 32 years of age, began her career of singing at the age of sweet 16 years with AFTER FOREVER with which she released five studio albums until the break up in 2009. I remember pretty well the first AFTER FOREVER album Prison of Desire and above all the song Follow in the city which I liked very much. remembers Tuomas. Two years later AFTER FOREVER went with us for the tour, so I could watch them evening after evening. Floor at these times had already been a self-confident, amazing singer with charisma. This is why we have known her as a person, too - and when it came to replacing Anette, she was our first and only choice. I knew that she likes Nightwish, that she knows our musical material and that she once even covered our track She is my Sin with AFTER FOREVER. When we asked her for help within our US tour, she immediately said yes and took the next flight. It didnt take Floor more than a second to reply. It was just incredible. I received the call at the day of my sister Irenes wedding. So it came to my I do towards the band. It was an emotional decision. There was no way for me to say no. But after my commitment I began to think of the challenge this was going to be. But it was the best that could have happen to me. What a perfect title. the strong-voiced Chanteuse laughs, This DVD brings back all the feelings and shows the mental status we all have been in. I spent these 48 hours with booking my flight, packing my bags, printing the lyrics and putting the songs of the setlist on my mobile phone and computer. So I travelled with the headphones and lyrics to the airport and spent my time on the plane with learning. At 1 a.m. I entered the states. I could not think of sleep at all. At 4 a.m. I was picked up by the Nightliner, but still I was too stressed to think of sleep. So I met the first band members who had stayed up to welcome me. While we were travelling, we practiced the songs nonstop until my head felt too heavy for this. But I could not sleep nor eat anything. In my head there was only one topic: Play this show and dont destroy it! Thats what I did - and I have never been as excited as I was at this moment. The hour X Bandleader Tuomas was not less excited, but he tried to give Floor something of his outward peace. When we arrived in Seattle, we rehearsed for two hours until we got reasdy for stage. I was really nervous but optimistic that everything was going to be fine. Floor tried not to show her strain, but we could all see what was running through her head. When we opened the Rehearsal with I want my tears back, we all were so very relieved because we knew that we would make it. Maybe it did not sound perfect, but there was not much missing. After the rehearsal and the first show with her we were so happy and really loved to imagine how we would sound with floor after a few weeks. The thing I was most happy about is that nobody wanted to give back his ticket in advance and all fans welcomed Floor so heartily. When I think about this one year later, it appears like a dream to me that I cannot believe it came true. Floor has to take a deep breath when she thinks back to this day. I was going to get a cold, there was that jetlag and a bronchitis-virus that circulated around in the tourbus. Because of that my voice had lost a lot of strength and I had to sing only with the head-voice so this was anouther challenge. A few of the lyrics I had to take with me on stage because it was impossible to learn them all in this short amount of time. But even though I was so stressed and there was this undenieable pressure, I still think that this was a nice show that went its way fluently. It all came like it was supposed to and for the strong woman from the Netherlands this was an amazing start. I have jumped in at the deep end but there is something good when you dont have the time to think about all the expectations you have to live up to, how the fans will react or if you yourself fit the band at all. It became clear for me in the progress that I have been so very lucky to be accepted from all sides so heartily. The acceptance gave me again motivation and energy. Sacred Place The last but two show took place at the biggest heavy-metal-festival worldwide, at Wacken Open Air. Its metal-paradise, for the fans and for the bands. says the frontwoman. It was not the dimension of the festival but the fact that the show was going to be recorded that made me nervous. The performance itself passed very quickly for me, but I enjoyed every single moment. I changed my stage outfits for several times what I actually dislike doing because it makes me feel like Im breaking out of the flow. I was very happy when it all happened without any problems. We were standing in a firework of pyros which I could not all see because of my position as a musician, but I could hear them and that pushed my adrenaline even more. The Wacken-Show was the biggest one with the biggest audition, so it was predestined to be recorded. Actually we only wanted to publish the documentary, but our label suggested that we should end the thing as a whole with a big show. The first two days I was against this, because I wanted a Live-Release with a special show at a special place, with an orchestra, guests and many actors - but we just were not able to do this in such a short amount of time. A normal festival performance was too few in my opinion, but as a package in a whole it completes the documentary and simply shows where we are standing at the end of this special journey, together with Floor. That is why the DVD is named Showtime, Storytime because it is both a story and a concert. Above all it brings this total work of art Imaginaerum down to a round figure, which began with a long, complex and expensive studio production and ended up with a movie, which costed several millions of dollars and presents all the visions intricately but dreamlike. The movie was accompanied by an innovative soundtrack an this history-writing tour that had its superlative in making Floor a permanent member. If I had the nerves to do this once again? I think I do, because this is what makes the band what it is. Dramas are happening, there are emotions in between, while we follow our hearts and the instinct. If we want to make a movie, we will do that. Thats why it is difficult for me to say where the journey with the next album goes. Until now I have written four songs that do have an Old-School-Feeling and arent that orchestrated. But there can happen so much which I do not have a clue about by now. But it feels good, my head is free to think and is able to fully concentrate on music without thinking of movies and soundtracks at the same time. But before Nightwish are going to suprise us with a new longplayer during the next year, Tuomas Holopainens first Soloalbum is going to be released, in which his topic is Dagobert Duck, the rich comic duck from duckburg. Tuomas never denied that he liked this world, and he admits that he has always liked the ducks better than the mice. While we speak, I am at the control room because we are recording the banjos and acoustic guitars today. We go ahead very well. The orchestra and the choirs are recorded already and I have done my piano parts as well. I think we will be ready in approximately one month so we can publish the CD in April 2014. What I thought of when doing this, is a little dream I kept inside of me since the Oceanborn tour 1999. Whenever I read the book The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, there is that music in my head that needs to be heard. In germany this book was published as Onkel Dagobert - Sein Leben, seine Milliarden. I liked the though of a soundtrack in addition to a book, because this wasnt there alsready in musics history. I liked it when the books author Mr. Don Rosa, appreciated my idea so that he will visit us in the studio next week. Im really excited about his reaction and what his opinion about the whole thing is. Nightwish fans will be happy even if the metal-aspect will be missing, but the composers handwriting will be noticed for sure. The album will be an instrumental piece mostly, but there will be guestsingers. All in all its a beautiful story that marked me and tells so much about the beauty of the world and life. And the characters interesting because hes not only rich but he has love for his family in him.
