Here was my email to our superintendent, he asked for our input/opinions so here it is. .. Superintendent Allison, I know this may sound petty, but as a Timken Alumni I feel that Timken has always come second when compared to McKinley. This has been proved way back when I cheered for the Trojans and we had to beg for money on the streets just to have uniforms made and the McKinley cheerleaders had a ton of new ones every year. Years back we had to fight to even keep our football team and it took players and students going to bat for us to even make that happen and now we are totally losing everything related to Timken completely. I totally understand a need for change and for our city to be more as a unit, but what I dont understand is why do we all have to adhere to the McKinley High School name, the Bulldog as the mascot and the red and black colors. What should happen is start over. Make a new high school name such as Canton City High School for example. It would make the lose of our school a little easier if we are both willing to compromise and not just have Timken take the back seat like we have for so many year. We may not have the McKinley Bulldog name that is so well know for their football team but did just have a basketball team that was well know for their success just last year. It is very sad to see the drop in enrollment, especially since I received such a great education here at Timken and I hope combining both schools will bring this brighter tomorrow that we keep hearing about, but again as a proud Timken Trojan I hope that our voices are heard before we are all forced to live and work in Bulldog Nation instead of the Canton City School District.
