Here we go--7 things about me (thanks, Dave Williams). Some of these most people know, but Im sure theres one or two no one (besides family) does. 1. Ive been a bowler since the age of 11. I was the first person ever in my high school to get a varsity letter in the sport all four years. I currently hold a 214 average; over the last ten years, its been just about exactly 200. I have never shot a perfect game. My high career game is 288; my high career series is 735. 2. I was hit by a car when I was eight years old--crossing the street on my bike (dont do it, by the way). I have absolutely no memory of events between the time I started across the street and when I woke up in the hospital 24 hours later, although Im told I was conscious immediately afterward (I apparently tried to get up and check on my bike even though I had very serious injuries). I was in traction in the hospital for three months, and wheelchair-bound for another three. 3. At some point around the age of 12 or 13 (no later than 1969), I did the station signoff inspirational message--back when TV stations ended their broadcast day at midnight--for a week. 4. I never knew my dads parents; they were killed in an auto accident when I was two. My mothers biological father was never part of my life either, although I did have a couple of step-grandfathers on that side. As a result, I have become interested in genealogy and have been president of a genealogical society. I have also traced lines in my family back to the 13th century. 5. I achieved a professional designation as a Chartered Property/Casualty Underwriter (now dormant) during my career in the insurance industry. I helped design and manage a very early version of a catastrophe management system for wildfire for one of my employers. 6. I have personally received direction from Clint Eastwood. 7. I am a fan of Doc Savage, who predates and prefigures Superman by about 6 years. Bonus item: I cannot stand the taste or smell of coconut. My first allergy medication had an overpowering coconut flavor, and Ive been averse to it ever since. Bonus item #2: I used to have a very explosive temper. Kids used to taunt me until I blew (it was apparently amusing); I learned to keep a lid on it...eventually. Thanks for listening.
