Heres Stephens report from Carrick enduro, what a great weekend. With the sun blaring and it forecast to stay Pzremek, Gary and myself headed off to Carrick in Co Wicklow for the final round of the Gravity Enduro. Carrick is known for its fast, flowy and fun trails and is chosen as the venue for Irelands first Enduro World Series next May. Pzremek was on a tight schedule for practice needing to leave by 1pm so we picked out the longer more technical stages to start the day on. We practiced stages 1, 4 & 5 which meant we climbed all of Carrick hill 3 times in a row. At over 35km long and over 1000m vertical this was going to be a tough one. Pzremek headed off at lunch and me and Gary finished up with stages 2 & 3. Practice was great fun and left us all looking forward to race day. We got a good early start on race day day and pedaled on up to stage 1. The trails were so dry and fast youd forget you were still in Ireland. I got a nice steady run down stage 1 while Gary struggled a bit to get in his groove. Pzremek put in a good solid run. More of the same on stage 2 but unfortunately Gary had a fall. Stage 3 and both myself and Gary had problems with getting caught behind riders and losing time. All was going well then until stage 5. Taking in a large amount of the Carrick DH track Gary had this stage targeted as one to put some time into others on. So had I... Gary started off 1st and I followed closely behind. We were both flying until I washed out on a berm and hit a tree stump hard just a few hundred metres from the finish. After rolling around in agony for a few minutes I decided the quickest way home was to finish the stage. I straightened up my handlebars then saddle and slowly pedaled on down the stage to find a puzzled Gary and Pzremek at the finish wondering where Id gone. It was a sore end to another great seasons Enduroing. Gary put in a sold 9th place netting him 10th in the overall standing for the year. Pzremek finished his 2nd enduro and has progressed so much in the scary stuff over the summer. My crash put me out of any points scoring positions but with just 3 races done I finished up 33rd in the overall. Happy with that. Roll on next year! Cheers, Stephen
