Heres Thelonious Monk (my favourite jazz pianist) playing in Tokyo in 1963. Seeing this reminded me that I first heard his music when I fortuitously tuned in to a BBC TV show featuring him in the mid-60s. I must have been about 15 I guess, and I was immediately hooked, partly by the weird angularity of his playing, and partly because of the unique visual aspect.
