Heres a Scottish perspective skimming over the probable origins of words like: Hillbilly - Redneck - Blackmouth - Cracker - Gringo - and their supposed Celtic roots in Scotland/Ireland. Some say its incorrect to say Scots-Irish & that it should be Ulster-Scots. Some say Scotland is mainly Irish anyways. Some say to use the word Celtic is not an accurate way of describing the various regions collectively. I find the journey of these things fascinating. Usually speaking, a derogatory term has its roots in something as simple as having a different belief or having a different way of life, and its mostly down to some tool of segregation in general. Scotland is one of my favourite places on earth & The Picts are legends. Some even say the origins of Gospel music stems from the Scottish slave masters bringing it to America (Scottish were also brought to America as slaves).
