Heres a TBT submission to chuckle at: This is me at the William Faulkner conference in MS sometime during the early 2000s. I had that shirt made based on a store in Faulkners Snopes saga. I thought it was pretty clever, but at this reception, all these academic types kept avoiding me because they assumed I was a working-class local yokel who wondered in off the streets. I was amused that none of these advanced-degree-holding eggheads bothered to read the shirt and see that it was Faulkner-related (the back had more stuff about the store, featuring a list of items they sold, like sardines and crackers). I was also amused that they were so thrown by the idea of a local person attending their snobby conference that they couldnt bring themselves to come up and say hi -- until they found out I was part of their club. Then they loved the shirt and took a bunch of pictures of me wearing it. Hilarious.
