Heres a chunk out of the middle, just in case you havent read it yet. Joy and Phillip were so taken with the green, mountainous, jungle back country, that they decided to see it first hand. They outfitted themselves with back-packs and provisions, wished their friends well and disappeared into the brush. The terrain in places was treacherous but always lovely. Towering cliffs were broken only by green carpeted valleys and an occasional waterfall. The islands didnt know a road. What they did know was rain forests. The weather gave them a break though and waited until the fourth day before opening up on them. The rain had just started when they came across the first shelter they had seen; an old, traditional, white slat, steepled church. The rain continued for one full day and night but they were high, dry and exhausted. There were also beds which were extremely welcome after a few nights in sleeping bags. Other than the pews, the pulpit and the beds in the back room, the church was empty. There were no icons or symbols of any kind, so they couldnt tell what denomination it had been. They wondered what happened to the builders, and the possible parish? Having the shelter they found be a church seemed to hold great personal significance for Joy. In the morning, Phillip awoke to find Joy in front of the alter, deep in thought … or was it prayer? He watched her for a while. She seemed radiant. When she noticed Phillip was awake, she quickly stood and mentioned nothing more about it. Since the new day was a beautiful one, they again packed up and were off. Phillip didnt learn until much later what that moment had actually meant. That afternoon, after hiking a couple more miles, they made a thought-provoking discovery. While exploring a group of caves, they came across some ancient markings and drawings. From both of their limited knowledge of archeology, they recognized them as being similar to earthly Neanderthal cave drawings, pictographs. That was definitely a cause for pondering. Not only had Philip seldom contemplated the nature of Heaven, he had never even considered the possibility of the history of Heaven. With evolution vs. Adam and Eve, it would have been interesting to discover at what stage man had been granted Heaven. They had seen no apes there, but supposed that it was possible Adam and Eve could have been Cro-Magnons. They wondered where those primitive people were now. It was also apparent that Heaven had been populated long before Christianity. So much for Dante.
