Heres a funny story...remembering when...working out in Kananaskis...18 hour days as there was not enough room in staff residence to properly staff the hotel. We were so fatigued, to the point we would hallucinate. I remember when mushrooms hit the valley> Jen and I didnt take them, however, Rene and Lisa did. Whatever, they were having fun. But as we did our 1.9 km hike to the hotel for work at 4:30 a.m.,, we heard a crunch. We all turned around...nothing feared, as nothing was seen... Jen and I said keep walking, almost there. Then there was another crunch, and will never forget looking behind me and a proper grizzly landed its first paw on the trail, then a second as all its fur gathered around its head from the impact. Rene screamed. I remember questioning myself as to whether we were seeing things or if this was real? Once I saw the exhale into the cold air when it landed.... who cared anymore? I felt it was real. And so did Jen. We told Rene and Lisa to stop yelling and run. Ran we did. All four of us. Made it safely to the hotel...and the bear walked around the parking lot for an hour. The point of this story, is thank you Parks Canada. Despite shutting down the hotel for 4 hours...they simply put the bear to sleep and gave it a helicopter ride deeper into the mountains. No, we didnt kill a part of nature. Still grateful for that day. :)
