Heres a highly acclaimed yet rarely heard recording of the Art Pepper Quartet in 1956. It was issued on reel-to-reel tape, only. Then a limited pressing in Japan, whenever. Five cuts, total. It begins and ends with Pepper on solo alto-sax and bass accompaniment: tunes called Blues-In and Blues-Out, respectively. Pure genius, mournful, haunting. A musical reflection of his real existence. Never heard him play better. So happy to have found this on Youtube. This is the kind of jazz that you just cant tire of. True art. True Art!
