Heres a hint to anyone who thinks they can monetise progressive rock. You cant. Sure, you can make music and sell CDs and stuff and maybe make a profit out of it. But if you try to hang on the shirt-tails of the whole circus by, for example, charging to write reviews, or getting people to pay for podcasts youre doomed to failure, and quite rapidly. The money isnt there, basically. Bands and labels dont turn huge profits, and most have been around long enough to know that having your song on the latest compilation from DodgyProg isnt going to make a blind bit of difference to your market penetration. The real heroes in this game are those who do it for love of the music. They write reviews, publicise albums and generally enthuse simply because what theyre hearing moves them. As the manager of a tiny record label I salute you all.
